Why Change Agent Leadership™?
Change Agent Leadership™ is designed to EQUIPE Global Change Agent Leaders with the necessary skills to prepare them for their work within the home, business, community, and around the globe. Although Change Agent Leadership™ is designed for all generations, a major focus group that The Flundonian Group targets is next generation leaders--The millennials. There is much debate as to the dates of this generation and ranges from the late 70's to the early 2000's. Change Agent Leadership™ focuses on equipping individuals born from 1983 - 2001.
As an educator who has observed and researched this "Millennial" Generation, Justin has uncovered some startling truths.
Reseach Findings On The Millennial Generation:
- Grew up with on-line technology.
- Most protected generation (never rode a bike without a helmet, discouraged going places on their own, spends more time indoors (technology) than outdoors, protected from financial realities, parents over protective in solving conflicts).
- Spend most of their time socializing utilizing text messages and social media sites (Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn).
-
- Connected with friends 24/7.
- The second half of this generation (born after 1990) are often called "iY" growing up with the iPod, iBook, iTunes,iPad, etc.
- Many individuals within this generation suffer from poor social skills due to the lack of face-to-face encounters (on-line and connected).
- Although this generation is very mature physically, socially, and intellectually, they are very immature emotionally.
- This generation typically has a very high self-esteem because adults in their life have told him how special they are, that they can be anything they want in this world, and many parents have doted over them. This has led to an increase narcissism.
- Most over served generation where many Millennials have an overinflated idea of their own importance and has led to narcissistic beliefs.
- This generation is consumed with being rich, famous, and wants to "Change the World" and believes they will do so.
- First generation that doesn't need leaders to get information from and the first to lead their parents in technology.
- This is a generation that wants to be the best because of the amount of competitive activities they have been engaged in.
Research from Howe & Strauss; Elmore
The Conclusion of these findings resulted in our young people who are short on patience (instant gratification), listening skills, and conflict resolution skills. Many of the Millennial's who have graduated from college are moving back home with their parents because they cannot handle the pressures and stress of the "real world". This generation are called the "late bloomers" because many individuals are not maturing until 25 years of age. In other words, adolescences is no longer ending at 18.
Tim Elmore, Author: iY Generation
After being exposed to the early research regarding this generation, having Millennial children of his own, and observing firsthand in the classroom, Justin feels he has been called to EQUIPE our next generation leaders to become Global Change Agents within their family, community and around the world.
"I believe a creative approach and a differentiated learning environment will provide this generation with the tools necessary to become Global Change Agent Leaders, impacting our world for the better."
--Justin A. Flunder
Justin takes timeless leadership principles and is able to EQUIPE next generation leaders using a relevant and practical approach.
E xperiential - This generation does not want to listen and regurgitate. They want to create and produce
and therefore the content that is used to teach must be hands-on and simulated.
Q uality Feedback - this is a generation that thrives off of feedback. Videogames, Internet searches/videos, and
text messages are instant.
U tilize Visuals - images define this culture. We live in a technological haven - TV, movies, MTV, the
Internet, iPhone.
I nvolved - individuals in this generation do not like to sit and listen. This is a generation that is more right
brained and creative. They want to conceptualize instead of regurgitate information.
P articipation - interfacing 24/7 is a common occurrence with this generation. They are accustomed to working in
groups and on teams. They rarely spend any time by themselves and enjoy socializing.
E valuation - this is key because it allows individuals to grow and correct their current behavior or skill.
Without evaluating or assessing the individual, growth and development cannot exist.
What is a Change Agent Leader?
A Change Agent Leader is an everyday individual (student, manager, executive, employee, entrepreneur, parent etc.) who leads by example and is dedicated to making this world a better place. Change Agent Leaders create positive change because they see themselves as every day influencers who are willing to demonstrate their leadership skills through action. Change Agent Leaders seek and learn the powerful influence strategies and tools neccessary to create and lead change.
"Preach the gospel to the entire world , and if necessary use words" -- St. Francis of Assisi
The Change Agent Leadership™ Philosophy is founded on Three Pillars of Change Agent Leadership™:
- The Power of Truth (Leading from the Inside Out)
- The Power of Intention (Performance Leadership)
- The Power of Relationships (Relational Leadership)
Change Agent Leaders agree that it:
- Is needed in every school, campus, church and organization!
- Meets you where change and growth is needed!
- Refreshes, renews, and recharges!
- Focuses on results!
- Impacts goals, relationships, and attitudes!
- Changes the way you look at leadership!
- Motivates and provides an incredible leadership experience!
Leadership is not defined by title or position, but rather, through action.
Personal Change Agent Leader
Every person on earth is a Change Agent Leader because every person has the ability to influence someone else. People may not choose to actively lead them self and others positively and therefore exist in life, but their potential to be a fulfilled and successful leader is very much apart of who they are. Anyone can thrive as a Change Agent as it is grounded in the belief that every person can improve their life and add value to our world.
The purpose of a Change Agent is to improve the quality of life of others (which starts with the self). Sometimes that change may take place within a home, school, church, or business, and sometimes that change may take place within a community or on a global stage. The size and enormity of the change is irrelevant. What matters is that change and growth is taking place because of an individual's choice to act and grow as an every day leader positively impacting the world. As a result of embracing the choice to succeed as a Change Agent Leader, their life becomes one of growth and contribution as opposed to living a life of mediocrity leading to unfulfillment.
Examples of Personal Change Agent Leaders:
- Being a Leader of yourself
- Being a Leader in your family (Spouse, Parent, Children)
- Being a Leader in your community

Organizational Change Agent Leader
Too often, organizations lead with Change Agent Leaders at the top of the organization (Closed System of Leadership) and they attempt to empower positive change in others. Change Agent Leadership™ involves creating frontline Change Agents (Open System of Leadership) where every person in the organization becomes a Change Agent Leader (on-going training and skill development) and therefore creates a thriving and high-performing culture.
In an Open System, if a leader at the top of the organization leaves due to retirement, transfer, or promotion, the organization continues to thrive because leadership capacity has been created through the empowerment of all Change Agent Leaders. In a Closed System, when the Leader at the top of the organization leaves, the organization can lack harmony and continuity, and positive change can be difficult to sustain.
Examples of Organizational Change Agent Leaders:
- Being a leader of a management group (CEO, Executive)
- Being a leader of school committee or division (Manager)
- Being a leader of a small team (Team Leader)
