Change Agent LeadershipTM is perhaps the most element of leadership. If you cannot lead yourself, you do not have the ability to lead anyone. Change Agent LeadershipTM is founded on 3 pillars:
Have you ever wondered how to increase your productivity or performance on a daily basis? Have you ever considered what drives your mood or attitude? Have you ever discovered the one thing that leads to your success and fulfillment? The answer lies in finding your passion in everything you do! Whether you are trying to increase personal success or motivate your employees to produce better results, the answer is always found in finding an individual's passion. When a person finds their passion in their personal or professional life, in essence, they have found their true joy in life.
Once a person's passion is identified, a cause soon follows. As with all passionate people of the past, action always pursues passion. People often believe that a person's job, leadership/manager role, parenting style, or relationship is a responsibility, but this should not be the case as this is where passions are born. Think of a time when you spoke with a person who was passionate about something. How do you remember feeling? 2 Do you remember feeling a certain energy that exuded out of this person? It is this energy that drives people to passionate individuals. Many people seek this energy or passion and wonder how to acquire it. When people find this passion, families, occupations, organizations, and communities are transformed. In my opinion, passion is the beginning of extraordinary leadership. Whether you are a parent, employee, friend, community volunteer, manager, or own a business, all success and fulfillment begins with passion.
Passion = Cause = Action = Leadership
A person becomes passionate by embracing their day-to-day events with 100% commitment and energy. I will guarantee you that you will always be more satisfied when you enter a visit, a meeting, a presentation, a trip to the grocery store, with 100% commitment and focus. We have become accustomed to govern our days on autopilot and live for the end of the week rather than thriving in life and living in the present. We drive to work functioning in a "tunnel vision" not realizing the beauty that surrounds us. Furthermore, we overlook opportunities to empower ourselves through conversations each and every day. Become a passionate driven individual and you will see an immediate change in your emotional state. When we are present in the moment and passionate about what we are presently doing, we exude powerful positive emotions. This may seem difficult to do, but like everything, it is a matter of practice and habit. As a result of living with passion, you will begin to see your productivity and performance increase exponentially.
Most people in society tend to focus on the negative rather than positive in most situations. This is why many people struggle with sustaining a specific change in behavior. For instance, I know many people who chose to join a gym. At first, they were experiencing success because they had enough willpower to get up, go to the gym, and get on with their day. However, willpower does not change behavior because it does not last. These people started to focus on the negative aspects of working out, such as concentrating on their aching muscles, or focusing on how tired they felt after work, or how early they had to get up in the morning to get to the gym (Negative), rather than focusing on the positive long-term effects, such as increased self-esteem and confidence, a personal sense of accomplishment, obtaining their ideal body weight, an increase in energy and vitality (Positive). We are conditioned to focus on the negatives because of our external world. Here's something you can do to help you live with passion on a daily basis.
Change Agent Power Exercise
One effective strategy that will help you to begin living with passion and increase your productivity and performance is to always focus on two or three positive aspects of every event or situation you encounter. For instance, if you have a meeting to prepare for, write down two or three positive benefits of doing it immediately. How will it make you feel if you complete this task? Always write your positive benefits on paper. When you write down your thoughts on paper, it becomes more real. This is where you will put your focus.
Only focus on these things and do not let the negative benefits penetrate your consciousness. Always focus on the positive benefits in each and every situation and you will begin to see a positive increase in your emotional state and passion for life. Do this for one month, and it will become a part of your everyday routine. I guarantee it!
When people reflect on their life, a common statement that arises is, "I wish I had more time." In fact, when people are asked what they would like most in their life, "time" is ranked in the top 3 of all responses. Why do we struggle with this problem? The answer is found in our lifestyle. We are living in a culture of rapid change, largely due to technology. As a result, we are feeling overwhelmed with trying to accommodate for this rapid change while balancing our work, family, commitments, relationships, health, etc. After gathering many hours of research in this area, I have concluded that 90% of all people who claim they have no time indeed have more than enough time to manage their life. They fail due to inadequately allocating their time. I have studied this area in-depth and would like to offer you one strategy that will exponentially increase your productivity.
The 1-2-3-4-5 Method.
If you are a person who enjoys creating lists, then you will really find this strategy useful. This method is based on creating a list of tasks you need to complete.
CLARITY IS POWER! When you complete this exercise, not only will you experience clarity and awareness, but you will feel AMAZING! If I can equate it to anything, it would be the same feeling a person experiences 2 after organizing or cleaning their office, house, desk, etc. They feel liberated and in control of your life!
Here it is! Every night, create a list (write it down on paper) of all the things you need or would like to get done the next day (I recommend you do this weekly or monthly as well). Once you have your list, create the following headings.
Must Do's: These are all the things you must get done tomorrow. If you do not complete these tasks, you will suffer an unfortunate consequence. Behaviours that may fall into this category are completing an important assignment at work, preparing for a meeting, working on a major project, spending time with a loved one, visiting a friend who is ill, etc.
May Do's: These are the tasks that are important, but you will not suffer an immediate consequence if you do not accomplish them. Behaviours which may fall into this category are planning for a meeting later in the week, working on a project or an assignment that is weeks away, organizing your office or house, etc.
Want to Do's: These are tasks that you would like to do, but there is no consequence if you do not complete them. Behaviours that fall in this category are checking unimportant emails, talking on the phone, spending time on FaceBook, shopping, surfing the internet, reading a book/magazine, visiting a friend, etc.
Delegate: When you look at your list, you may see a number of tasks that can be accomplished by someone else. Often we complete tasks that can be achieved by another person (spouse, co-worker, colleague, friend, children, etc.). Delegate whatever you can on your list.
Eliminate:When you read your tasks, ask yourself, "Is this really necessary?" "Is this something I should be spending my time on?" I guarantee you there will be items on your list that you can eliminate.

Take Action Now! Write down all of the tasks you need to complete today and apply this method. Do not wait another second! Ensure to write down your tasks on paper and place an 1,2,3,4, or 5 beside each task. Remember to stay focused and disciplined holding the end RESULT in your mind. That is, experiencing an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and time to do what you want to do! Your productivity will increase dramatically!
The most important quality of leadership, the one quality for which you want to be known, is extraordinary performance with the goal of achieving extraordinary results. These results then serve as an inspiration to others to perform at equally exceptional levels. Many people believe that effective leadership involves men and women who can most empower and enable others to achieve important goals or initiatives.
We develop great perceptions of those men and women we can count on to help us achieve what is important to us. They are men and women who make great sales, who establish admirable sales records, or develop influence in the minds and hearts of their coworkers and superiors. They are spoken about in the most positive way.
Men and women who are responsible for businesses/companies, managers, or leaders of organizations that achieve high levels of profitability also develop charisma. They develop what is called the "halo effect." They are perceived by others to be extraordinary men and women who are capable of great things. Although their many shortcomings are often overlooked, they are regarded as extraordinary leaders because their 2 strong points are overemphasized. They become charismatic and often become a magnet for others.
Charisma actually comes from working on yourself. It comes from liking and accepting yourself unconditionally as you do and say the specific things that develop within you a powerful, charismatic personality. Once you become grounded in your specific purpose, vision, and A.C.T.I.O.N., your strong sense of who you are permeates throughout your environment. Live the Change Agent System When you set clear goals and become determined and purposeful, and back those goals with unshakable self-confidence, you develop charisma. When you are enthusiastic and excited about what you are doing, when you are totally committed to achieving something worthwhile, you radiate charisma. When you take the time to study and become an expert at what you do, and then prepare thoroughly for any opportunity to use your knowledge, skill or experience, the perception that others have of you goes straight up.
When you take complete responsibility and accept ownership, without making excuses or blaming others, you experience a sense of control that leads to the personal power that is the foundation of charisma. When you look like a winner in every respect, when you have the kind of external image that others admire, you build your charisma. When you develop your character by setting high standards and then disciplining yourself to live consistently with the highest principles you know, you become the kind of person who is admired and respected everywhere. You become the kind of person who radiates charisma to others.
Finally, when you concentrate your energies on achieving the results that you have been hired to accomplish, the results that others expect of you, you develop the reputation for performance and achievement that inevitably leads to the perception of charisma. You can develop the kind of charisma that opens doors for you by going to work on yourself, consistently and persistently, and becoming the kind of person everyone can admire and look up to. That';s what charisma is all about. 3
"You Cannot Change What You Do Not Acknowledge"
I often hear people informing me that they would like to change a specific behaviour in their life (lose weight, improve relations, increase performance productivity, empower their employees, etc.). Many of these individuals are very eager to make this change work, but rarely put on a different set of glasses. Often we are looking through our own subjective lenses rather than the lenses that reveal truth and understanding. It is hard to identify areas of weakness and easy to focus on our strengths. However, we cannot change any behaviors unless we are ready to acknowledge our current reality. I have discovered that until an individual is ready to acknowledge the truth in their life, change will never happen. Often we need to change our behavior because of a specific reason, which is allowing us to under perform. Often this reason is negative and difficult to address. We must acknowledge the Brutal Facts in our life, make the decision to no longer accept them, and create a plan of action that will redirect our course. 4

Here are two things you can do immediately to put these ideas into action. First, ask yourself every day, "What is the one thing that I and only I can do, that if done well, will make a real difference to my life?" Whatever your answer, go to work on that.
Second, decide upon the most important results you can get for your life and make sure that you employ others to assist you towards accomplishing your end result. This is better known as constructing your Personal G.P.S. Team.
The Essential Question to Ask Yourself?
In regard to your personal or professional life,
What are you working towards?
This is perhaps the most important question to ask yourself. Most people cannot answer this question. If you are not sure where you want to go in your life, it will be absolutely impossible to accomplish and perform at your best! It will be impossible to achieve the life you desire, both personally and professionally. If you are looking for a promotion, an improvement in health, to change careers, to start a business, or to simply enjoy the essence of life, you must focus on what it is you want!
In its simplest terms, you have been put on this earth to get results of some kind. This may manifest in the form of a job or position in life, raising a successful family, creating positive change in someone's life, or to fulfill an area of passion. First, define your "Why" in the area of your life you want to further develop and expect to achieve your end result! What does your end result look like, sound like, and feel like?
A key focus area is defined as something which you are completely passionate about and committed to. A focus area is a want or a desire that tugs at your emotional core which manifests in your conscious mind. Your self statements might echo statements like, "I wish I could do that" or " I would love to do that" or "I know that would be fulfilling." It is the energy you put towards your focus area that becomes a contributing factor towards your success.
Once you have determined your focus area(s), the second step is for you to grade yourself on a scale of 1-10 for each focus area(s) (It is alright to only have one focus area). How close are you to achieving your end result? Are you getting excellent results or are you under performing?
The fact is that many people have procrastination issues and therefore struggle to take action. Refuse to rationalize, justify or defend the reasons why you are not taking action. Instead, identify them clearly. Set a goal and make a plan to become very good in your area of focus. Remember, once you focus on an area that you are passionate about, it will be very difficult to fail! Here is one of the greatest questions you will ever ask and answer: "What one area of focus, if I developed and did it in an excellent fashion, would have the greatest positive impact on my life, career, family, etc.?" Print out this statement and read it daily! Use this question to guide your life! Look into yourself for the answer. You usually know what it is.
Change Agent Power Exercise
Identify the key area of focus. What is it? Write down what the end result looks like. If you concentrated your time on this focus area and pursued it with excellence, what would it look like? On a level of 1-10 where would you be now? Give yourself a grade from 1-10. Next, determine the area of focus that, if you did it in an excellent manner, would help you the most in your life.
Conduct this exercise every week until you achieve your focus area.

The only way to improve an individual's personal and/or professional life is to learn from successful people. What I have discovered was that every individual who had ever been successful in their personal and/or professional life had a clear vision outlining where they had wanted to go. Of the 1000 individuals I have researched, ranging from successful business leaders, educational leaders, entrepreneurs, non-profit and for profit organizations, parents, families, and specific positions and titles throughout various companies; every person attributed having a CLEAR vision as the #1 reason for their success. More importantly, every individual focused on their vision daily!
Successful people take the time to think through and develop a clear picture of where they want their personal and/or professional life to be in one, three and five years. Successful people communicate this vision to everyone around them in such a way that others "buy in" and eventually see the vision as belonging to them. A vision must be grounded in purpose. There must be a purpose for everything we do!
It is the vision of the future possibilities, of what can be, that arouses emotion and motivates people to give of their best. Unfortunately, most people never clearly identify what it is they want their future to look like. Telling yourself you want money, a happy family, advancement in your career, a meaningful relationship is not a clear vision. Describing what your vision feels like, sounds like, and looks like is in fact clear and measurable. What does your vision look like?
The most powerful vision is always qualitative, aimed at and described in terms of values and purpose rather than quantitative, described in terms of money. Of course, money is important, but the decision and commitment to "be the best you can be" is far more exciting. To encourage others by instilling confidence in them and helping them to perform at their best requires you to lead by example.

Here are two things you can do immediately to put these ideas into action.
In regards to your focus area, write down your ideal vision (2-4 years). What does it feel like, sound like, and look like? Be as detailed as possible. Read this everyday and focus on receiving the benefits of your vision. You may be surprised at what you will find! What are some things you can do immediately to turn your vision into your current reality? My suggestion above is a start.
Ensure you hold this statement in your consciousness as often as possible. Whenever you encounter a problem or obstacle, ALWAYS focus on the SOLUTION rather than the Problem. You will not advance your vision if you are complaining about the problems in your life!
(Adapted from Dr. Phil Humbert)
There are two phrases that are widely thought to encourage peak performance but are actually recipes for disaster. The first is the ever-popular search for "best practices" and the other is the quest for "zero defects." While I understand the intention behind them, in the real world too often they merely trigger our fears and create tremendous interference.
We hate making mistakes! No one wants to mess up, drop the ball or fail! We hate being embarrassed! Unfortunately, human beings are only human. We get tired, we forget, we get distracted. We have misunderstandings and sometimes (I hate to say it) we make mistakes. We "mess up." In the quest for perfection, we kid ourselves and we waste time and energy striving for the impossible. Most of the time we are far more successful if we strive for excellence, being a Change Agent, rather than perfection. And, sometimes, the situation only requires "good enough," and our efforts beyond that are a waste of time.
Now of course there are instances where "perfection" is the appropriate standard, but in real life these are few and far between. Most of the time our quest for "perfection" is inappropriate and grows out of an exaggerated desire to be right, to be super-human, to avoid criticism or minimize risk. Peak performers are more interested in getting things done than in perfection. High achievers look for appropriate outcomes and measure their success based on the quantity and quality of their results. In most areas of life and business, here are my preferred standards:
The Change Agent (Excellence). In work and in relationships, seek excellence or being the Change Agent. We want superb results that other people admire, but life rarely asks for perfection. Mistakes are merely the price of experimentation, learning and growth. Never fear making a mistake; fear failing to learn and move forward.
Good Enough. In most activities our goal should be performance appropriate to the situation. Anything less is sloppy or careless and that is never acceptable, but anything beyond what a specific situation requires or expects is merely personal preference. Consider my front lawn. It is not a prize-winning lawn and no one';s life or happiness or career depends on its appearance, so "good enough" requires a few minutes with the trimmer, a half-hour with the mower, and some fertilizer from time to time. It looks "good enough" and blends with the standard in our neighborhood. Anything less would be "sloppy;" anything beyond that is time spent for some other personal reason. Perfection is rarely required. Instead strive for being a Change Agent in the important areas of life and "good enough" in everything else. I think you';ll be happier, more productive and in the long run far more successful.
Change Agent Power Exercise
Take 10 minutes to recognize the area of your life where you want excellence, that is, being a Change Agent.
List all of the things you do in a day, week, or month in which you try to reach perfection.
Create a T-chart and on the one side write "Change Agent" (Excellence) and on the other side write "Good Enough."
Take the list you created and add each area to the appropriate category. This will prioritize your life and provide you with a sense of liberation and self-confidence. I guarantee it!
